Description

In this two-day course participants will engage in intensive and interactive sessions that will enhance their leadership skill set. Each session will provide direct instruction by an experienced instructor with a background in supervision and management. In addition, the sessions will provide the opportunity for participants to share their experiences, concerns, and questions to draw upon the instructor’s and group’s collective knowledge base.


While it is beneficial to have already attended Leadership Institute: Essentials for Supervisors, it is not required.


Course Outline

Lesson 1: Stress Management



  • Positive and negative aspects of stress

  • Identifying personal stress triggers and responses

  • Mitigating stress and building resilience


Lesson 2: Emotional Intelligence (EQ)



  • Understanding the components of EQ

  • The benefits of EQ in the workplace

  • Practicing personal and social EQ in the workplace


Lesson 3: Difficult Conversations



  • Identifying types of difficult conversations

  • Strategies and steps for handling difficult conversations

  • Conversation self-management

  • Staying safe


Lesson 4: Managing Difficult People



  • Asking yourself the right questions

  • Understanding the causes of behaviors

  • Selecting the appropriate actions


Lesson 5: Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging



  • Defining and understanding what these terms (and related terms) mean

  • Identifying personal and systemic barriers to DEI&B in the workplace

  • Contributing to a culture of DEI&B


Lesson 6: Coaching



  • Developing a coaching relationship

  • Effective coaching skills and behaviors

  • Establishing objectives, expectations, and goals
