at State of Vermont in Pittsford, Vermont, United States
Job Description
OverviewThe Vermont Criminal Justice Council is seeking a thoughtful, innovative, and highly motivated professional to serve as a Fair & Impartial Policing Instructor. This role goes far beyond delivering training, and it is an opportunity to influence how law enforcement professionals across Vermont think, lead, and serve their communities.
The FIP Instructor will design and deliver impactful training; facilitate challenging conversations about bias, culture, and race; and help law enforcement agencies put evidence-based, equitable practices into action. A key part of the job is incorporating data into real-world strategies and supporting agencies as they implement and evaluate these changes. Relationship building is central to the role. The instructor will work directly with officers, supervisors, agency leaders, and community partners statewide to shape policies, training, and practices that affect public safety across Vermont.
The ideal candidate is curious, collaborative, comfortable navigating difficult discussions, and skilled at engaging diverse groups. They should be able to work independently, think creatively, and be motivated by the opportunity to create long-term, meaningful change.
Overall, this position offers a unique chance to influence statewide policing practices and help build a law enforcement profession grounded in fairness, impartiality, and public trust. Help us build a law enforcement profession that is continually learning, adapting, and earning the trust of the communities it serves.
Duties are carried out in a variety of settings but most frequently within a standard office, or classroom. Position duties may require performance outside of normal workdays and hours due to the nature of law enforcement training and culture shift. Flexibility is required and tight deadlines can occur. Strong and differing opinions may arise as to the nature, content, or method of delivery.
