This position has primary responsibility and accountability for all the financial activities of the department, including operations, planning, budgeting, testifying, and reporting. The Financial Director supervises senior professionals and is ultimately responsible for overseeing a staff of 48 people throughout 4 units: Analytics, Accounts Payable and Receivable, Grants and Contracts, and Special Projects.

The right candidate for this position will serve as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team at DCF, will dig into problems and think creatively, and will collaborate across all departmental programs on a complex, $700 million, budget that impacts services for Vermonters. 

While this position is based in Waterbury, there is the opportunity for a hybrid (in office/remote) schedule; there may be some travel, mostly in state.

Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting but some travel will require private means of transportation. Duties may require extensive time outside of normal work hours. Incumbent will be expected to attend public meetings and hearings and to testify before the Legislature. A wide diversity of opinion and emotions can be anticipated for which diplomacy and tact will be required.
