Overview

The Tobacco Control Program is seeking a community-minded individual to join our team as a Prevention Specialist. This position will work with partners across the state to reduce initiation and use of tobacco and nicotine at the community level. This is a great position for someone who enjoys health education, establishing networks, and collaborative problem solving. 

 

The work of the Prevention Specialist will include: 
•Coordination of the Tobacco Coalition grants.
•Contributing to coordination among partners both inside the Health Department and in Vermont communities.
•Fostering new relationships and connections across public health systems to strengthen tobacco and nicotine use prevention.
•Supporting Tobacco Control Program activities such as program planning, workplan development and monitoring, and reporting to our state and federal partners.

 

We are looking for an individual who can demonstrate many of the following:
•Strong organizational and planning skills.
•Experience building and/or maintaining community relationships. 
•Familiarity with community grant administration activities such as budget monitoring, deliverable review, or grant development.
•Ability to effectively communicate with internal teams and external partners.
•Experience in tobacco or substance use prevention and/or treatment, or related public health programs is a plus.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in both a standard office and field settings. Private means of transportation must be available for required travel. Stress may be anticipated in dealing with emotional situations involving application of programs, especially in dealing with families and in the allocation of program resources.
