Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Job Description

+ 5-6 Full Time DSP’s needed (in addition to part time positions which are widely available)

+ 12 Hour Shifts, Days or Nights 7-7’s. Can do 8 hour shifts for day shift only.

+ Variable Schedules, must be flexible if possible!

+ Located in Colchester VT

+ DSP Will transport Individuals in their personal vehicle as needed to different events (things in the community, personal events, etc etc)

+ Mileage reimbursement .72 per mile paid monthly – Must keep mileage log

Personal Care

We support adults ranging in age from 20 to 70+, so personal care needs vary from person to person. For some individuals, this may mean simply being nearby while they use the bathroom, checking in and making sure they are safe. Others may need hands on assistance with using the toilet, getting up, and leaving the bathroom safely.

There may also be times when an individual has an accident and staff need to assist with cleanup. Staff receive training to provide this support safely, respectfully, and appropriately. The level of assistance depends on each individual’s needs.

Medical

As with personal care, we support people ranging from 20 to 70 with minimal to more intensive medical needs. This can be giving meds/following documentation protocols, hoyer lifts, catheter support (only one participant right now), applying medications to skin, etc. Some participants also have special care procedures like eating protocols or seizure protocols. All medical protocols are trained by our agency nurse. These are not super extensive medical things-as people with no medical experience are able to be easily trained and perform them.

Driving and Transportation

Staff may drive 10 to 100 miles per day as we serve individuals throughout Chittenden, Franklin, Addison, and Grand Isle Counties. Staff must have a valid driver’s license, a registered and inspected vehicle, and auto insurance with $100,000/$300,000 coverage. Overnight staff won’t have to drive as much, but there may be times when they need to in the evenings or if a medical issue requires urgent care but not an ambulance.

The Direct Support Personnel III assists individuals with intellectual disabilities or mental health challenges with growth and development of interpersonal skills and activities of daily living in the home, community or residential setting. The Direct Support Personnel III works directly with the resident and provides supports for activities of daily living and adaptive skills. The Direct Support Personnel III should follow the guidance of the resident/ patients Individual Service Plan.

Minimum Requirements:

+ High School diploma or its equivalent

+ Valid driver’s license

+ Valid and current auto insurance and vehicle registration

+ Must be able to pass a motor vehicle check

+ Must own a vehicle in proper working order throughout the term of employment that includes regular vehicle maintenance, timely repairs, and adherence to all safety standards

+ Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice

+ Current CPR if applicable

+ TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

+ Current Health Certificate (per contract or state regulation)

+ Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

+ Must be at least 18 years of age

+ Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks
