Job Description
OverviewThe Vermont Military Department is looking for a Military Maintenance Specialist to work primarily at Camp Johnson in Colchester.
Military Maintenance Specialists are responsible for maintenance work across multiple trades including but limited to:
- Carpentry
- HVAC
- Plumbing
- Electrical
- Heating
Military Maintenance Specialists also maintain the grounds, roads and training areas requiring snow removal in the winter months. May be responsible for operating heavy equipment, including loaders, excavators, dozers and heavy trucks equipped with plows and wings.
Additionally, qualified candidates will have:
- Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in facilities maintenance and repair work.
- Knowledge of safety procedures required when performing construction or repair of building systems.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to complete assignments correctly, and in a safe and timely manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors.

Environmental Factors
Work is performed at military facilities in VT. An incumbent often works near or with hazardous materials, including ammunition and high voltage. Work requires entering confined spaces, removing snow on runways and exposure to loud noises. An incumbent operates heavy equipment and possession of a Commercial Driver's License is required. An incumbent must be able to climb ladders and lift equipment and materials weighing as much as fifty pounds. Work is performed in all kinds of weather. Some outside of normal working hours may be required. Travel and overnight stay may be included.
