Job Description

Northlands Job Corps is seeking a dependable Cook Assistant to support daily food preparation and dining services for students and staff. This position assists with preparing and serving meals, maintaining clean and sanitary kitchen and dining facilities, and guiding culinary arts and work-based learning students in safe food preparation and storage practices.

• Prepare appropriate quantities of food based on established menus and the number of students and employees being served.
• Follow all local, state, and federal food-safety regulations and proper food-handling procedures.
• Assist with serving meals.
• Clean and maintain kitchen, dining room, food-service equipment, and assigned work areas.
• Operate dishwashing equipment and clean dishes, utensils, and cookware.
• Inspect and clean food-service equipment.
• Assist with receiving, moving, and storing food, equipment, and supplies.
• Supervise and assist culinary arts and work-based learning students with proper food preparation, sanitation, and storage practices.
• Assist with supervising leisure-time employees and students participating in work-based learning activities.

• Knowledge of food-preparation, storage, safety, and sanitation requirements.
• Knowledge of basic methods for preparing, cooking, and serving food.
• Familiarity with kitchen utensils, appliances, and food-service equipment.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students and staff.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and similar computer applications.

• Ability to read and understand written instructions and communicate effectively in English.
• At least three months of related work experience preferred.
• Current ServSafe certification or the ability to obtain certification.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
