Tri-Valley Transit (TVT), a nonprofit organization, has been providing critical transportation needs for community members for 49 years. Our dispatchers play a vital role in connecting clients with essential services and are passionate about making a difference in people’s lives.

This is a full-time, in-person position based in Randolph, Vermont.

About Tri-Valley Transit

Tri-Valley Transit is a nonprofit regional transportation provider serving Addison, Orange, and northern Windsor Counties, with planned expansion into Washington County in 2026. Formed through a 2017 merger of Stagecoach Transportation and ACTR, we operate fixed-route and demand-response services supported by federal and state funding through VTrans.

What You’ll Do

Key Responsibilities

  • Call Handling
  • Answer calls from riders requesting transportation or route information.
  • Assist callers with selecting the best route or coordinating door-to-door service.
  • Use two-way radio to contact drivers for request stops.
  • Scheduling & Data Entry
  • Enter trip details into our dispatch software while on the call.
  • Ensure all ride data is accurate for funding and reporting compliance.
  • Match ride requests with available volunteer or paid drivers.
  • Driver & Volunteer Coordination
  • Notify volunteers of ride assignments by phone or email.
  • Adjust schedules in response to changes, cancellations, or emergencies.
  • Compliance & Documentation
  • Manage Medicaid paperwork and eligibility documentation.
  • Track completed rides and prepare data for billing and audits.

Work Environment & Tools

  • Fast-paced office with up to 50 calls per day.
  • Shared office space with other dispatchers—requires focus despite background noise.
  • Use of three computer monitors to manage scheduling, communication, and records.
  • Specialized dispatch and scheduling software, phones, and two-way radios.

Shifts & Flexibility

  • Office Hours: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Available Shifts:
  • 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (Primary shift currently hiring)
  • 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Flexibility is essential, especially during peak demand or staff absences.

Pay & Benefits

  • Pay: $21.00 – $23.50 per hour (based on experience)
  • Signing Bonus: $2,500

On-Call Responsibilities (Union Position)

This position is part of a bargaining unit and participates in an on-call rotation after a 90-day qualification period, upon demonstration of readiness and proficiency.

Key Details:

  • Compensation:
  • 14 hours of straight-time pay per week or
  • 2 hours per 24-hour on-call period
  • Additional pay for any actual time worked while on-call, at the appropriate rate
  • Scheduling:
  • On-call schedules are posted quarterly and bid in seniority order
  • Unfilled weeks may be assigned in reverse seniority order (excluding PTO)
  • Employees cannot be involuntarily assigned to back-to-back weeks unless in an emergency
  • Flexibility:
  • Employees may voluntarily split on-call weeks with prior approval
  • Part-time employees may volunteer for short-notice coverage

Qualifications & Conditions

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience in customer service, dispatch, or scheduling preferred
  • Must pass all required background checks
  • This is a safety-sensitive position and subject to drug & alcohol testing
