at State of Vermont in Montpelier, Vermont, United States

Job Description

Overview

Join the State of Vermont's Drinking Water & Groundwater Protection Division as a Compliance Analyst, where you'll be at the forefront of public health protection and drinking water compliance. This role is integral to our mission, providing regulatory and technical oversight for Vermont's public drinking water systems. The Compliance Analyst will add to a collaborative and energetic team of 7 existing staff in the Compliance Section that work together to implement both state and federal drinking water regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Compliance Section Supervisor and other Compliance Analysts to manage the Lead and Copper Rule.
  • Assist in tracking and evaluating compliance with the Federal Lead and Copper Rule, both current and future implementations.
  • Provide outreach and guidance to public water systems across Vermont.
  • Develop and implement new rule resources, including fact sheets and public materials.

On October 16, 2024, limited portions of the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) went into effect, with additional regulation to be implemented under the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI), with a compliance date of November 1, 2027. This position will support public water systems as they navigate compliance, identify and replace lead service lines, provide required public notification, and complete rigorous drinking water quality testing.

This limited-service position is funded through September 2027 and involves extensive communication with water system stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, strong organizational talents, and a keen attention to detail. This individual must be self-motivated, able to meet deadlines, flexible, and a collaborative team player. Additional preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrated track record of providing excellent customer service. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe is required.

A hybrid telework schedule may be available with supervisor approval and with a designated workstation in Montpelier.

Environmental Factors

Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation must be available. Field work may involve exposure to chemicals, gases, hazardous liquid and solid waste, construction sites during all weather conditions and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.
