The Agency of Digital Services is looking for a Cloud Data Engineer to help us scale our datalake, implement our next-gen data platform's API tooling, and develop our modern strategy for data integrations. This platform consists of a variety of technologies that are provided as a cohesive experience to techies and analysts, including AWS data platform tools like Redshift and Athena with a focus on API tools using Python. This role is within the Data and AI Division, and will collaborate with other AI Team members on AI usecases to drive improved outcomes for Vermonters. What you will do:

Our Data unit works with project teams throughout the project lifecycle to streamline delivery of solutions in Vermont's shared environment.

  • Flesh out the high level architecture developed by Enterprise Architects into technical architecture, data models, and other collateral.
  • Understand usecases and project goals and help the project teams to think creatively about integration and automation to deliver coherent and fluent user experiences.
  • Design and implement data models in a medallion architecture lake to enable programs to answer big questions and drive more effective services.
  • Create APIs and scheduled jobs to remove drudgery and free up program staff to focus on Vermonters.
  • Work in an agile environment to deliver iterative success.
  • Help evolve the State's Data models, process, and tools.

 

Who you are:

  • A pythonista, steeped in the how to make the cloud pythonic
  • Comfortable working in cloud-native environments, especially AWS
  • Great with customers and able to translate user problems and requirements into data structures that make their job better
  • Experienced at pivoting between multiple projects, going deep but also zooming out to find commonalities and reusable patters
  • Someone who loves to learn new things and pass them along to others
  • A person who values agility, builds flexible data structures, and can adapt to an evolving environment

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in a standard office setting and there is considerable interaction with users and members of project teams requiring tact and diplomacy to balance competing views. Some travel may be required for which private means of transportation should be available. Work outside of regular work schedule may be anticipated.
