Area Coordinator
Posting Summary
The Area Coordinator (AC) is a full-time, live-in professional responsible for providing leadership, student support, and community development for one or more Learning Communities housing approximately 700-1400 students. Reporting to an Assistant Director for Residential Education, the AC cultivates a vibrant, socially just residential environment by supervising professional staff, guiding restorative and community-based practices, and ensuring the successful implementation of UVM's Learning Communities model.
The AC builds inclusive, educationally purposeful communities through direct student support, crisis response, professional staff and student leader development, and close collaboration with faculty and campus partners. This position plays a key role in student well-being by serving on the on-call rotation, responding to students of concern, and supporting residents through proactive and responsive interventions.
A master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Education, or a related field and at least one year of full-time professional experience are required. Candidates with supervision experience, restorative practices training, and demonstrated commitment to multicultural competence are strongly encouraged to apply. Final candidates will undergo a background check due to the live-in nature of the role.
This is a required live-in position. As part of the live-in appointment, the Area Coordinator receives a fully furnished apartment, meal plan, access to pet and partner policies, gym membership, comprehensive health benefits, and tuition remission. On-call responsibilities are compensated with an additional stipend. This position is a union-represented, exempt role and includes access to professional development funds.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
A Master's Degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs, Student Personnel, Counseling, Education, or related field and at least 1 year full-time experience is required.
Successful candidates will be subject to background check due to the live-in nature of this position.
Desirable Qualifications
Previous supervision experience is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who embrace the concepts of Restorative Practices and who have a demonstrated commitment to intercultural competency development, and fostering a collaborative multicultural environment.
Anticipated Pay Range
$50,000-$54,000 (at 11 months)

Successful candidates will be subject to background check due to the live-in nature of this position. This is an 11-month position, July 1 - May 31.
