Job Description
Ellis Music Company is a family music store specializing in school music instrument rentals, sales, and repairs throughout Vermont and New Hampshire. We’re seeking a financial professional to oversee the store’s financial health, managing accounts payable/receiveable, payroll, budgeting, and reporting.
Core responsibilities- Accounts payable and receivable
- Manage outgoing payments to vendors and incoming payments from customers.
- Payroll
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of employee payroll.
- Tax compliance
- Work with an accounting firm to prepare and file all necessary business tax returns, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Budgeting and forecasting
- Assist in developing and managing the store's budget, and provide financial forecasting to support business planning.
- Financial record-keeping and reporting
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records for all store transactions, including sales, expenses, and payroll.
- Compile and present regular financial reports, budgets, and commentary to management for decision-making.
- Customer Interaction & Sales (as needed to support office staff)
- Answer telephone and email inquiries promptly and professionally
- Assist customers with rentals, purchases, financing, and service scheduling
- Recommend products, explain features, and promote rental programs
Key Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Strong knowledge of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and spreadsheet programs (e.g., Excel).
- Computer literacy and the ability to quickly become proficient with the store’s point of sale software.
- Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Retail sales experience a plus.
