Job Description

Join the Bennington DMV team in a fast-paced, customer-focused role! The Motor Vehicle Examiner II will issue licenses, permits, and Commercial Driver's Licenses, and will administter written and road tests. You'll also assist with vehicle registrations, renewals, and provide general customer support.

This is an in-person position based at the Bennington DMV.

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, new hires are typically made at the salary range minimum.

Duties are performed mostly outside in the field and some in an office setting. Incumbents must be able to work quickly and accurately under pressure before the public eye. Due to significant public contact, exposure to contagious illnesses is a daily risk. The incumbent will be working in all weather conditions (rain, wintery slippery roads etc.). Incumbents must be able to multi-task and remain on task to complete their daily schedule. Considerable human relations skills are required to deal with confused, frustrated, nervous, upset, or hostile applicants. Incumbents may be required to take over the operation of a motor vehicle in the interest of personal and public safety. Riding in various vehicles in which the incumbent has little control of the operator of the vehicle and/or environmental conditions of the vehicle or roadway. The incumbent must be able to travel to other offices with minimal notice to assist when staffing shortages occur and various scheduled hours. Private means of transportation may be required. Some overtime work may be required. Incumbents must be able to carry heavy objects of up to 50 pounds. A uniform- must be worn during work hours.
