Job Description
OverviewThe Department of Building & General Services (BGS) Office of Safety and Security is looking for Security Officers to support our mission to keep to State Employees and facilities safe and secure. Security duties vary greatly from day to day but can include managing visitors at security kiosks, conducting building patrols, enforcing parking policies, responding to alarms, emergencies, and concerning events, monitoring security cameras, and documenting the circumstances of safety and security events. Incumbents must be able to communicate effectively verbally as well as be able to write comprehensive incident reports. Incumbents may be required to walk and/or stand for long periods of times, sometimes in adverse weather conditions. Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be available to work at night, weekends, and possibly on holidays.
Environmental FactorsIncumbents may be expected to work night and/or weekends shifts and be willing to work overtime, sometimes on short notice. Incumbents will frequently work alone and in adverse weather conditions. Tact is needed while conversing with state employees, contractors, and the public. Some exposure to potentially dangerous situations may be encountered. Standing or walking for extended periods will be necessary. Some travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation will be required.
