Adjunct Instructor of Filmmaking - Cinematography

Champlain College invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor of Filmmaking specializing in cinematography. We seek a passionate educator to join our dynamic community where students work across disciplines while creating innovative projects.

The successful candidate will teach both beginning and advanced cinematography courses, mentoring emerging filmmakers in the technical and artistic aspects of visual storytelling. As part of The Creative Studio at Champlain College, this position requires a highly collegial and collaborative approach, working closely with faculty from other programs to foster interdisciplinary learning experiences.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Deliver engaging instruction in undergraduate cinematography courses, ranging from foundational to advanced levels
  • Develop and maintain industry-relevant curriculum that balances technical proficiency with creative expression
  • Provide constructive feedback and mentorship to students on their film projects
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and best practices
  • Collaborate with program faculty on interdisciplinary projects and initiatives
Qualifications and Areas of Expertise:
  • Demonstrated excellence in cinematography through professional work or artistic achievement
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment

Desired expertise in one or more of the following areas:
  • 16mm Film Production
  • Narrative Feature Filmmaking
  • Narrative Short Filmmaking
  • Studio and Natural Lighting Design
  • Professional motion picture cameras
  • Grip and Electric
  • Film History
  • Visual Storytelling
Work Arrangement:
This is a contract position with responsibilities based on course assignments per semester. Adjunct Instructors are expected to:
  • Be on campus for all scheduled class sessions, office hours, and required meetings
  • Teach courses primarily during standard academic terms (Fall/Spring), with potential Summer session opportunities
  • Maintain regular availability for student consultation during the semester
  • Participate in occasional department events, screenings, or guest speaker sessions
Compensation:
Compensation for this position is determined by:
  • Credit hours taught per semester
  • Current collective bargaining agreement rates for adjunct instructors

Detailed compensation information will be provided to qualified candidates during the interview process. Champlain College offers competitive adjunct instructor rates consistent with regional standards and union agreements.
