Overview

The Vermont Criminal Justice Council (VCJC) is seeking a highly skilled Director of Training and Curriculum Development to lead the delivery of legally defensible, competency-based law enforcement training across the state from our Pittsford, VT campus.

 

This full-time leadership position will oversee the redevelopment of the IADLEST-compliant basic training curriculum and ensure future curriculum meets evolving legal standards, case law, and constitutional requirements while producing measurable learning outcomes. The ideal candidate will demonstrate hands-on experience in building and evaluating transferable-skill-based curricula aligned with adult and adolescent learning theories, with a proven ability to develop interactive, high-impact in-person and online content that engages diverse learning styles. The Director will supervise instructional staff, manage hybrid and digital learning platforms, and ensure that all content supports legally sound practices in critical areas such as de-escalation, mental health response, DEI, victim-centered approaches, and substance use disorder awareness.

 

A background in instructional design, data-informed evaluation, and professional development for instructors is essential, along with strong communication, time management, and organizational skills. This is a rare opportunity to influence public safety training at a foundational level through thoughtful, modern curriculum strategies rooted in accountability, research, and equity. Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional overnights required.

Environmental Factors

Duties are largely performed in an office setting however exposure to inclement weather and strenuous activity during training events should be expected.
