Agronomy Specialist



Posting Summary
Support and execute agronomy outreach and technical assistance work in the Champlain Valley and occasionally other areas of Vermont. Facilitate primarily externally focused community services, programs, and educational projects. Conduct an integrated and comprehensive educational and outreach assistance program in the areas of farm management, agronomic field crop production, and natural resource conservation practices to improve farm viability and surface water quality in the Lake Champlain Basin and Connecticut River Valley. Responsibilities include developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating outreach education and technical assistance programs provided to the local farming community in livestock, crop, soil, manure, and nutrient management and implementation of approved Best Management Practices to reduce soil and nutrient losses into waters of the state. Provide support for the Champlain Valley Farmer Coalition, a non-profit, farmer-led organization devoted to farm resilience and clean water.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Bachelors degree in a related field and two to four years of relevant experience; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates should have a demonstration of strong applied experience and/or research experience and two to three years of experience in developing outreach education and providing technical assistance in agricultural contexts is preferred.

Desirable Qualifications
Master's Degree in a field related to agriculture preferred. Certified crop advisor status highly desirable.

Anticipated Pay Range
$52,000-$65,000

Other Information
Position will be based in Middlebury, Vermont Extension Field office.
Position is currently funded through July 31, 2026.

Special Conditions
Position located in different city, Bargaining unit position, A probationary period may be required, Contingent on continued funding, Travel to and from worksites required, Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime), Background Check required for this position, This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule with an option to split time between campus and elsewhere, in accordance with the university telecommuting policy
