Job Description

Overview

The Vermont Department Of Corrections is looking for a Probation & Parole Supervisor at thier offices in Newport.  This position provides supervisory and administrative work with other Probation & Parole Officers.  Under the supervision of the Community Corrections District Manager, you will plan, deliver, and evaluate correctional services. Supervision is exercised over casework and security employees, volunteers and contractors. Extensive liaison occurs with correctional, law enforcement, and service provider personnel.  This position oversees the development of work, education, housing, restorative justice and criminogenic needs reducing programs. All employees of the Agency of Human Services perform their respective functions adhering to four key practices: customer service, holistic service, strengths-based relationships and results orientation.

 

Examples of Work    

  • Supervises staff in the delivery of casework, intervention strategies and supervision of offenders.
  • Supports and directs staff, volunteers and contracted providers in the case management and case planning functions of risk management and conditional compliance response supervision.
  • Supervises interactions with community boards and justice centers regarding offender-community restorative and re-integration activities, victim notification and public education.
  • Supervises Community Restitution Program work activities as an intermediate sanctions program in order to develop meaningful alternatives to incarceration and return value back to communities through work projects for non profits, municipalities and state agencies.
  • Ensures compliance with statutory mandates including Sex Offender and DNA registries.
  • Ensures equitable workload distribution and quality of services.
  • Takes direct responsibility for the quantity and quality of correctional risk control and risk reduction programs delivered, as well as coordination with other co-located services such as the Community High School of Vermont.
  • May negotiate and monitor contracts with community treatment service providers.
  • May directly supervise offenders through responsibility for a specialized caseload.
  • May assume full operational authority, in the absence of the District Manager.

 

Must attend six weeks of instruction at the Vermont Correctional Academy.

Environmental Factors

Duties are mainly performed in a field office. Job duties require private means of transportation and some travel is expected. Evening and weekend work may occur. Emergency situations may require availability at any time. Direct contact with offenders is predictable and poses possible danger.
