Job Description
OverviewThe Facility Work Crew Leader is responsible for supervising incarcerated individuals engaged in community-based work. This position plays a key role in fostering a strong work ethic among participants, ensuring safety, and maintaining productivity and compliance with established protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise incarcerated individuals working on community crews.
- Promote responsibility, discipline, and a strong work ethic among participants.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks.
- Manage multiple tasks simultaneously and adjust to dynamic situations.
- Conduct daily documentation and reporting, including:
- End-of-shift reports
- Vehicle inspection forms
- Incident reports
- Tool and equipment inventories
- Participate in and help facilitate work-related training for eligible individuals.
- Maintain public relations in a professional manner when interacting with community members.
- Operate and inspect state vehicles and equipment as needed.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness and ability to work in various environmental conditions.
- Must have completed, or be willing to attend, the Vermont Corrections Academy.

Duties are performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings as well as in a standard office setting. High stress situations are predictable. A valid driver's license is required. Weekend shifts are predictable. Presentations before groups and organizations should be anticipated. Duty station assignments may change in accordance with the needs of the department.
