Job Description
OverviewThis job involves work within the Department of Mental Health (DMH) Adult Unit with a focus on utilization review for residential treatment programs funded by Vermont Medicaid.
This work includes reviewing authorization packets and verifying clinical need for adults seeking this level of treatment.
The eligibility determination process includes reviewing and tracking applications, communication, support and technical assistance to all designated and specialized service agencies statewide.
This role includes database management that tracks all incoming and current residential placements and will use this system to outreach agencies at defined intervals for ongoing eligibility determination.
The role may also support review and assistance managing individuals requiring DMH benefits based on level of treatment need.
This role may also include collaboration with other state agencies including the Department of Vermont Health Access (DVHA), DMH billing & financial teams, DMH & DVHA policy units, quality management, care management, and/or the DMH legal team.
The role also involves collaboration with community providers around clinical decisions. Familiarity with Vermont's public mental health system of care, eligibility determinations for mental health services, the Adults Needs and Strengths Assessment (ANSA), Microsoft Suite including Excel, and experience in the mental health field will all be assets in this position.
This is a limited service position ending March 31, 2026.
Environmental FactorsDuties are performed in a variety of settings, primarily within the Central Office but with need for travel, at times, to other settings such as general hospitals and community mental health centers for which private means of transportation must be available.
