Job Description
OverviewThis position is the second of four levels in the Information Technology (IT) Network Administrator series. Class incumbent is a technical expert in multiple areas of IT. Incumbent's primary role is advanced technical support for the State network infrastructure. They will use an approved ticketing system to monitor, track, document and manage the timely resolution of network problems. Duties include establishing and maintaining sound network performance levels by building network configurations and troubleshooting network problems.
Responsibilities include installing and maintaining communications networks at State-owned/leased facilities, and ensuring networks are operating smoothly and upgraded to provide maximum performance.
Individuals in this position must have to skills to:
- Successfully analyze and create plans to meet network requirements
- Be up-to-date on the latest technology;
- Understand and determine the hardware and wiring needs for facilities;
- Implement and adhere to controls and procedures to protect IT systems; and
- Work as a member of a team to meet their goals as well as improve processes and practices.
Duties are performed under the oversight of an administrative or technical supervisor. A fingerprint-supported background check will be required. In state travel required.
As of July 14, 2025, the step 1 rate for pay grade 24 will be $29.15 per hour.
Environmental FactorsWork is performed in a computer network environment involving considerable interaction with customers, departmental and other IT staff. Some overtime work will be necessary during after hour maintenance or emergencies. Some travel to customer locations may be involved, for which private means of transportation may be required.
