Job Description

Overview

The State of Vermont Military Department is seeking a skilled Military Maintenance Specialist to join our team in South Burlington.  This civilian military department position will have key responsinilities in these areas:

 

Structural Systems:

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on structural systems, including roofs, walls, floors, and foundations.
  • Conduct inspections and assessments to identify maintenance needs
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules

 

General maintenance:

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as replacing door handles and locks
  • Conduct repairs and replacements of structural components, such as doors and windows

 

Administrative:

  • Manage maintenance schedules and records
  • Order and inventory parts and materials for work orders
  • Prepare reports and maintenance documentation

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Compliance with safety regulations and Air Force Standards
  • Assisting other shops as needed
  • Emergency call-ins after hours and weekends

 

This position also requires you to have a background check for base access and government computer access, as well as the ability to obtain and maintain security clearances.  The position also requires a valid drivers license.

 

As of July 14, 2025, the step 1 rate for pay grade 19 will be $22.07 per hour.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed at military facilities in Vermont. An incumbent often works near or with hazardous materials, including ammunition. Work requires entering confined spaces, removing snow on runways, and exposure to loud noises. An incumbent operates heavy equipment, and must obtain heavy equipment operation certification for tractors, loaders, excavators, forklifts etc. within first six months of employment. 

Since work is performed at a military installation, an incumbent must be eligible to obtain and hold a secret security clearance issued by the federal government. An incumbent must be able to climb ladders and lift equipment and materials weighing as much as fifty pounds. Work is performed in all kinds of weather. Some work outside of normal working hours may be required, including travel and overnight stay.
