Job Description
Assistant Professor of Animation
Join us as an Assistant Professor of Animation and help shape the future of animation education at Champlain College. This faculty member will teach a diverse range of courses related to 2D and 3D animation, contributing to the newly established Animation major while collaborating with existing Game Art, Film, and Graphic Design programs.
The position involves developing curriculum that prepares students for professional careers in film, television, and visual effects. The Animation major focuses on 2D and 3D art creation and innovative projects, designed for students to gain professional-level skills while working collaboratively on interdisciplinary projects.
Faculty members develop industry connections, mentor students, and contribute to Champlain College's creative community through service activities supporting the program, division, and College mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching & Curriculum Development
- Teach four courses per semester in 2D and 3D animation and related subjects
- Develop and refine courses and curriculum to maintain industry relevance
- Integrate contemporary techniques and best practices in animation education
- Mentor students in developing professional-level animation portfolios
Student Engagement & Advising
- Provide academic and professional guidance to animation students
- Supervise student teams and interdisciplinary animation projects
- Support students in developing career readiness skills
- Create opportunities for students to engage with animation industry professionals
- Support recruitment and outreach initiatives for the Animation program
Job Requirements:
- Master of Fine Arts degree in Visual Effects, Computer Animation or a related field; or Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Effects, Computer Animation or a related field
- Animation/visual effects industry experience with professional-level expertise
- Demonstrated proficiency in one or more of the following areas: 2D Animation, 3D Animation, 3D Modeling, Texturing, Digital Sculpting, Character Rigging, Camera Tracking, Concept Art, Lighting, Digital Compositing, Visual Effects, Virtual Production, or Visual Storytelling
- Commitment to innovative teaching practices and student-centered education
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment
Additional Information:
Working Arrangements:
- Full-time, in-person faculty position based at our main campus in Burlington, Vermont
- Academic year appointment with typical faculty schedule following the college calendar
- Expectations to participate in academic division meetings, commencement, and other key campus events throughout the academic year
