Job Description

Overview

The Infrastructure Sustainability Analyst III will focus on engaging with and supporting small water systems in Vermont and their infrastructure needs.

 

This position will:

  • Work with a team of staff in the Infrastructure Sustainability Section to provide outreach and guidance to public water systems on regulatory requirements and the funding available for infrastructure projects. 
  • Engage with very small water systems to identify the material composition of lead status unknown service lines by coordinating with the water systems, their customers, and the laboratory to collect and analyze water quality samples.
  • Review and approve documents submitted by water systems in accordance with the Lead & Copper Rule Revisions and Lead & Copper Rule Improvements.
  • Coordinate with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and internal DEC staff on the requirements of the Drinking Water Infrastructure Needs Survey & Assessment.

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated experience understanding and applying federal and state rules and regulations.
  • The ability to distill complex regulatory requirements into easy-to-understand terminology for water system personnel and the public.
  • Succinct verbal and written communication skills, using a high degree of independent judgement and tact.

    Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation must be available. Field work may involve exposure to chemicals, gases, hazardous liquid and solid waste, construction sites during all weather conditions and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.
