Job Description
OverviewThe Department of Buildings & General Services (BGS) is looking for a Buildings Project Manager to work in their Design & Construction Division, managing all phases of building construction projects of varying size and complexity including repairs, renovations, and new construction. The Buildings Project Manager is responsible for the management of all aspects of assigned projects, including project inception; testifying before legislative committees; hiring and oversight of outside consultant engineers and architects; bidding projects; construction oversight; stakeholder communication; and coordination with building tenants.
In addition to project management, this position will assist the Operations & Maintenance Division with smaller projects, which could include in-house design, and will assist the Design & Construction Program Chief with technical reviews, vendor evaluations, design guidelines, standard specifications, and procedures. The position may serve as the State's COTW on a day-to-day basis. When doing so shall be primarily stationed at the work site and shall be responsible for overseeing the General Contractor's work. The position will observe the progress and quality of work as is reasonably necessary throughout all stages of construction to determine that it is proceeding in accordance with the construction documents.
The ideal candidate will have experience associated with construction project management, capital improvement, maintenance, design, and/or construction oversight. Candidates with HVAC, Mechanical or Electrical backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Candidates should have strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and to prioritize and maintain a diverse workload. Individuals with any construction project experience and a desire to focus on construction project management will be considered.
The Design & Construction Division has a telework policy that allows employees to work from a productive home office up to two days per week.
Environmental FactorsDuties are performed in office and field settings, including operationally challenging facilities such as psychiatric care and correctional facilities, or the forensics and health laboratories. Attendance at public meetings as a representative of the Department may be required. Some public speaking may be necessary. Private means of transportation must be available for required travel. Duties may not always adhere to a standard daily or weekly schedule. Some exposure to adverse climate conditions and adversarial opinions is predictable.
