Thermal Spray Technician I

Summary: The Thermal Spray Technician is responsible for performing HVOF, plasma, and/or other thermal spray coating operations per customer requirements and job folder specifications.
Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities): The primary duties consist of, but are not limited to, the following.
- This position is responsible for the care and treatment of our customers’ inventory and, as such, will perform duties safely and responsibly to prevent customer loss or damage.
- Review job folder to verify area of part to be masked, cleaned, and/or blasted and coated. Confirm all pre-coating requirements have been completed according to the job folder specification.
- Record and sign off on all applicable data defined in the job folder.
- Report all coating problems, inaccuracies in the job folder, damaged parts, and/or tooling and fixtures to the Thermal Spray Lead.
- Make appropriate use of coating materials, equipment, and documentation.
- Follow in-process inspection procedures as needed to verify current operation meets customer and technical plan requirements.
- Completion of assigned spray operation in a timely, accurate manner per work instructions.
- Accurate documentation of required data within the job folder.
- Attention to detail with a focused goal of zero rework.
- Maintaining high-quality output.
- Excellent record of attendance with flexibility to work overtime as needed.
- Assisting the supervisor in developing processes that will improve operations.
- 100% on-time delivery of assigned projects.
- Effective communication and collaboration with supervisor, plant leadership, and co-workers.
- Observe all Environmental, Health, and Safety Policy requirements:
- Keeping the work area neat and orderly at all times.
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Wear appropriate respiratory gear when in the thermal spray booth.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. - This position must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements, therefore, candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident cardholders.
- Education – High School diploma and a technical certification or a two-year degree in a technical field.
- Working experience in a production environment that demonstrates the capability to learn thermal spray processes.
- Ability to perform mechanical measurements (micrometers, calipers, etc.)
- Organized, detailed, and accurate.
- Good communication skills with co-workers and management.
- Documentation skills with basic MS Office, specifically Excel and Word.
- Previous Plasma, thermal spray, and/or HVOF spray experience preferred.
- Familiarity with large multi-axis robotics and associated programming tools is preferred.
- Advanced documentation and computer skills are preferred.
- Thermal spray process experience preferred.
Physical & Mental Demands: The following physical and mental demands consist of, but are not limited to, the following.
- Must be able to work in a sitting and standing position for extended periods in an office/industrial environment.
- Manual dexterity to perform data entry functions.
- Ability to bend, pull, stoop, and reach to perform functions.
- Up to 50lbs lifted 20-80 times a day.
- May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc.
- Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
- Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
- Ability to hear in person and via phone.
