Job Description
Discover St. Johnsbury is seeking candidates for the position of Events & Communications Assistant for 2025. This is a part-time, temporary position that will provides support to the Executive Director in executing and promoting a variety of community events that bring vibrancy to downtown St. Johnsbury.
Time Commitment: The weekly time commitment is flexible and will range from just a few hours to up to 12hours per week during busy event weeks in the summer. Outside of event dates, most of these hours will be self-directed, with some scheduled check-in meetings.
Duration: The duration is also flexible. An ideal candidate would be able to begin in mid-May 2025 and continue
through the end of December 2025, but this can also be a summer job for the right candidate. The ability to commit to specific event dates for St. J Final Fridays (Friday evenings on June 27, July 25, and August 29) is particularly needed, with additional events planned on dates TBC for October and December.
Compensation: This is an hourly (non-exempt), part-time, temporary position. Compensation will be at a rate of $20.00 per hour. Academic credit with a degree-granting organization can be arranged.
Tasks include:
• Supporting outreach and communication with event vendors.
• Maintaining website event calendar.
• Supporting event outreach and marketing.
• Day-of support on all event dates, including load in, set up, event management, and clean up.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be friendly, detail-oriented, with a strong work ethic, great communication skills, and the ability to work independently. Minimum qualifications include:
● High school diploma or equivalent.
● Previous event planning experience (even if it’s just leading club activities or social events).
● Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Google Apps, Microsoft Word, and ideally some experience with website editing software.
● Marketing & outreach experience, ideally including experience with graphic design tools like Canva and social media marketing.
● The ability to lift and carry event tables, tents, and similar supplies, weighing up to 50 pounds.
