Biodiversity Credits Manager (56428-VT)

at The Nature Conservancy in Montpelier, Vermont, United States

Job Description

WE’RE LOOKING FOR YOU

TNC is looking for a biodiversity credits manager to support TNC’s developing Biodiversity Credits Program. Applicants for this role thrive in a dynamic environment and can nimbly engage in the rapidly changing landscape of nature markets. This role will work at the interface of project management and science application, with the ability to collaborate, communicate and integrate science across many relevant fields.

Dynamic project management
The biodiversity credits manager will conduct project management activities associated with the start-up of the biodiversity credits program at TNC. This will include the project management of two biodiversity credit pilot projects across TNC business units. The manager will be responsible for supporting the evaluation of biodiversity credits schemes, tracking pilot project progress, and documenting and communicating on the pilot projects; importantly, all of this will be done in collaboration with a broad network team of scientists and conservation staff across multiple business units.

Pragmatic applications of biodiversity science
The biodiversity credits manager will assess the scientific robustness of various biodiversity credit schemes. This role will have a keen understanding of the inherent need for alignment across many fields, including scientific robustness, scalability of credits and outcomes, market demands, and scientifically valid claims, all with the desired result of positive nature outcomes. This role will track the rapidly evolving biodiversity credits space, collating and distilling biodiversity credits literature, including white papers, and policy and finance reports. This role will provide scientific recommendations based on their assessments of the literature and on-the-ground credits pilots, with an eye towards positive biodiversity and species outcomes. This role will be responsible for categorizing various credits schemes and assessing how these schemes integrate predator metrics into their methods and outcomes.

Science application and communication
The biodiversity credits manager will support the program director in understanding how to apply robust biodiversity science learnings to the developing biodiversity credits program and how to communicate about biodiversity credits to both internal and external stakeholders. This role will support producing written communication materials for the developing biodiversity credits program. The biodiversity credits manager will need to communicate complex topics to a broad range of stakeholders. This manager is skilled at writing concise and focused non-technical materials and has the ability to communicate across projects teams in a clear and impactful manner.
