The Electrical Engineering Manager directs and guides the activities of an electrical design engineering team to meet company objectives for new product development, and the improvement of existing product lines. Responsible for the complete arc of product lifecycle management with regard to the electrical function. This includes initial scoping, requirements, feasibility, analysis, design, verification, and sustaining. Collaborates with other business functions, stakeholders and customers to ensure clear communication and effective execution. Continuously improves the capabilities of the team through mentoring, training, recruitment, and process development.

Knowledge and Application

Receives objective based assignments, and determines resources to meet schedules and goals. Provides guidance to subordinates within the latitude of established company policies. Recommends changes to policies and establishes procedures that affect section or multiple disciplines. Decisions impact others in the immediate team and influence methods and techniques. Executes financials, business planning, organizational priorities and workforce.

Complexity & Problem Solving

Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors. Follows processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Develops and manages operational initiatives to deliver tactical results.

Discretion & Impact

Translates functional plans into operational processes and guides execution. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will add to costs and may have an impact that lasts up to a year.

Collaboration & Interaction

Interacts frequently with subordinate supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer group professionals, involving matters between sections and multiple units. Partners with key contacts outside own area of expertise and other external stakeholders. Effectively communicates and presents results and recommendations across discipline.

Management & Supervision

Manages the activities of multiple sections or a discipline through subordinate supervisors and/or professionals. Guides by function or department practices and well defined management precedents.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

+ Ensure Program objectives are met

+ Allocate resources and monitor progress

+ Facilitate collaboration with the other business functions.

+ Lead interactive multi-disciplinary group design activities

+ Manage the release of new products, and product changes, in conjunction with the other engineering functions, Operations, and Field Service.

+ Develop personnel through constructive feedback, mentoring, training, and timely performance reviews.

+ Develop processes, standard work practices and tools

+ Create and maintain a technical roadmap that aligns with the strategic vision of the company and serves as a guide for delivering the desired products and services.

+ Work with the commercial team and systems engineering on project proposals and feasibility assessments.

+ Facilitate the creation of clear product requirements though early engagement, rigorous review, productive challenge, and collaborative evolution.

+ Enforce a rigorous multidisciplinary design review process with clear tiebacks to the product requirements.

+ Ensure the appropriate use of engineering analysis to mitigate downstream design changes.

+ Pursue thorough verification testing of designs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

+ Management of Engineering group, team identity, promoting efficient teamwork

+ Supervision of junior and senior level engineers

+ Subordinate supervision of technicians

+ Participate in performance appraisals process.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

+ Demonstrated team leader of effective product development group

+ 8+ years experience managing technical professionals in a high tech product development environment

+ Organizational skills to track and coordinate multiple concurrent projects

+ Exceptional interpersonal skills with both peers and as supervisor

+ Exceptional oral and written communication skills

+ Proven ability to leverage and delegate responsibility when managing capable professionals

+ Experience with key electrical engineering tools; Solidworks, Autocad, Altium, Spice Modeling

+ Proven capability in complex technical problem solving, including group design activities

+ Career development experience with technical professionals.

+ Concrete experience designing products for regulatory compliance; CE, UL

DESIRED:

+ Leadership in concept design process involving multiple engineers

+ Detailed experience with defined Phase & Gate product development process

+ Digital printing industry experience, esp. inkjet

+ Proficiency with engineering design and analysis tools; e.g. Solidworks, Autocad,Altium, Spice

+ Technical expertise in industrial control systems, PLCs, Analog and digital circuit design, and industrial wiring
