Job Description

Janos Technology LLC (a FLUKE company) is looking for a creative optical coating engineer to design coating prescriptions and implement these designs into production, by providing the step by step process to the coating technicians .

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced production environment that embodies a mix between development of new infrared coatings deigns, complex problem solving, and support for standard production.

The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of design of thin film coatings on infrared optics, as well as the equipment necessary to deposit these materials successfully. The candidate will be a self-starter, will have a positive, energetic attitude, and will have the capability to lead teams and mentor other team members.

RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Develop, design and optimize optical thin film coatings to meet customer spectral and environmental specifications

+ Work hands on with coating chamber automation systems to program complex coating runs

+ Understand and operate metrology equipment used for characterizing thin films, including spectrophotometry and interferometry

+ Collaborate with the design engineering and sales team on new products and programs

+ Create detailed manufacturing plans for new product opportunities

+ Support Material Review Board for the disposition of non-conforming material

+ Utilize a disciplined and systematic approach to analyze defects and failures to determine root cause and implement corrective actions.

+ Demonstrate ability in applying problem solving, statistics, manufacturing quality, and quality principles

+ Work closely with technicians to investigate technical issues and work with team to develop solutions and implement them.

+ Design and construct special experimental or test fixtures, instrumentation or models.

+ Develop and conduct design of experiments for process improvement, new products and technology.

+ Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering such as Materials, Chemical, Optical or Manufacturing or a science-related field such as Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, or the equivalent in experience

+ Must be proficient (2+ years exp) in at least one thin film filter software package (FilmStar, preferred)

+ 1-3 years of experience in a similar role

+ Familiarity with IR coating materials and preferred evaporation methods and conditions

+ Exhibit sound interpersonal skills involving interfacing, coordinating and negotiating with company personnel at all levels, customers and suppliers

+ Ability to understand, analyze, and resolve complex technical problems with the use of DFMEA and PFMEA tools

+ Well versed in military coating specifications such as MIL-C-48497, and MIL-PRF-13830

+ Self-directed and detail oriented with ability to multi-task

+ Experience with ion assisted deposition a plus
