Primary Care Mental Health Integration – Outpatient Consultation Psychiatrist
The Robert E. Larner, MD, College of Medicine at the University of Vermont and The University of Vermont Health Network are seeking a full-time faculty member at the Assistant/Associate/Professor level on the clinical scholar pathway to practice outpatient psychiatry through the Primary Care Mental Health Integration Division for the University of Vermont Health Network Department of Psychiatry. This attending psychiatrist will be part of a team of licensed clinical social workers and mental health clinicians in outpatient primary care offices affiliated with the University of Vermont Health Network. We are emulating the American Psychiatric Association’s Collaborative Care model, and the attending psychiatrist will have flexibility in their work to include e-consultation and telepsychiatry from their home in addition to providing caseload consultation to primary care providers and other team members remotely.
We are currently hiring team members for our network expansion of our primary care mental health integration program at the University of Vermont Medical Center outpatient family medicine office in Hinesburg which is 30 minutes from Burlington, Vermont and for our partner hospital, Porter Medical Center, located in Middlebury. You will join a growing team in these brand-new sites focused on clinical implementation of the collaborative care model. The selected candidate will practice alongside a multidisciplinary team and see outpatients for psychiatric evaluations and short-term medication management visits. Clinical psychiatric consultations can be done via telepsychiatry which allows the applicant the ability to work remotely from home for much of their clinical time, although on-site presence to collaborate with primary care providers, for teaching and for patients, as necessary, is also an important part of the role.
The selected candidate will demonstrate the training and expertise to provide direct patient care, collaborate with other professional disciplines, and work with referring providers. An appreciation of the importance of and satisfaction from performing these critical functions and an ability to work collaboratively are essential. Applicants must have a medical degree and be board certified or board eligible in psychiatry. They also must reside in Vermont, and either have or can attain a Vermont medical license. Additional fellowship training in either child and adolescent psychiatry or consultation-liaison psychiatry would be useful for the role, however neither are necessary for application.
The Robert Larner, MD, College of Medicine of the University of Vermont Psychiatry Service hosts medical students on clerkships and electives, sponsors a residency in psychiatry, and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry.
