Network Engineer II (Remote)

About the Role:

+ The IP Network Engineer will be responsible for IP Network standards and optimization of Windstream’s IP/MPLS network and perform technical analysis, design preparation, and technical review for new implementations, upgrades, and/or services. You will be expected to assist with automation of our Network Engineering processes. You will also be responsible for providing engineering level support to Network Operations teams as it relates to potential network design improvements.

What You’ll Do:

+ Execute configuration changes and software issues fixes

+ Implement the IP/MPLS network covering the installations, testing & handover

+ Assist in the definition and process for the handover acceptance for new implementation of devices and circuits

+ Proactively perform corrective maintenance for IP/MPLS network

+ Contact vendors for support and faulty equipment replacement

+ Review network design, highlight issues and recommend for fixes

+ Produce periodic reports about the network activities, network performance and capacity

+ Analyses complex network issues and recommend for solution.

+ Author, review and evaluate all Windstream technical documents related to IP/MPLS network.

+ Author, review and update Windstream network documentation covering the drawings, technical documents and as-built documents

+ Execute the plans of preventive maintenance tasks

+ Assist in the development and execution of plans for network integration

+ Provide software and hardware exhaustive testing for Windstream standard compliance

+ Develop automation and other internal systems and tools to assist in the care and feeding of the IP/MPLS network and integration activities.

Do You Have?

+ Bachelors’ degree in Computer/Communication/Electrical Engineering or equivalent

+ Minimum seven (7) years of experience in network and telecom field

+ Ability to maintain a large network with complex network technology

+ Excellent TCP/ IP networking skills

+ Strong understanding of telecom networks

+ Experience with MPLS technology including L2/L3 VPN and traffic engineering

+ Excellent skills in configuring and troubleshooting Cisco/Juniper routers and switches

+ Experience with routing protocols (OSPF, ISIS and BGP)

+ Experience in using Microsoft Visio

+ Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

+ Excellent communication skills

+ Experience as a System Administrator is a plus

+ Familiarity with various operating systems and server platforms is a plus

+ Ability to create scripts in Python, Perl or other language is a plus.

Actual base pay for this job will depend on the candidate’s primary work location and other factors, such as relevant skills and experience.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

+ College degree in Engineering or a related field and 3-5 years professional level experience; or 7 years professional level related Engineering/Technical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related Engineering/Technical experience required.
