PRO DRIVER TRAINING

Attendance


Students are required to attend all scheduled classes, lab, range and behind the wheel training in 
order to complete the course.
We offer flexible scheduling to meet your needs.


Obtaining VT CDL Permit


We provide training and preparation for the Vermont CDL permit exam.


Students must carry their VT CDL permit and Medical Exam Certificate to participate in all behind 
the wheel training.
Training


The Pro Driver Training program is designed to prepare you for success. Through a combination of 
lab, behind the wheel and classroom training you will gain the knowledge, confidence and experience 
to start your rewarding career as a professional truck driver.
At PDT you will complete the following 6 comprehensive units. Additional dedication and time will 
be allowed for areas that require more refinement, your success is our goal.

All course materials and text books are provided by PDT. Our program follows the PTDI (Professional 
Truck Drivers Institute) recommended curriculum and minimum hours of training. We use the following 
course materials to provide you with the most comprehensive training possible:

Class A Objective & Requirements


 


 


 


 


 


Objective


Learn how to properly operate vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 lbs. or 
more, as long as the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle(s) being towed is more than 
10,000 lbs.
Operators with a Class A license are permitted to operate all vehicles within classes B & C.


During your Class A training, you will operate 10 speed tractor trailers to prepare you for 
entry-level local, regional, and over-road hauling. You will receive hands-on, one-on-one training 
from our certified driving instructors who, combined, have more than 70 years of truck driving 
experience.
Requirements


Students must complete a minimum of 148 hours of training as outlined below.


55 hours of classroom training, 40 hours led by our certified instructors and 15 hours of 
independent study.


25 hours of lab training to include but not limited to pre-trip inspection, identifying hazards, 
maintenance and securing cargo.
70 hours of behind the wheel training to include 40 hours of range driving and 30 hours on the road 
driving.


 


Class B Objective & Requirements



Objective


Learn how to properly operate any single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 
26,001 lbs. or more, or any such vehicle(s) towing a vehicle less than 10,000 lbs. Operators with a 
Class B license, are permitted to operate (with any appropriate endorsements and/or permits) all 
vehicles within class C.
During your Class B training, you will operate a 6-speed, 24-foot box truck to prepare you for 
local and regional entry-level CDL B positions. Students will receive hands-on, one-on-one training 
from our certified driving instructors who, combined, have more than 70 years of truck driving 
experience.
Requirements


Students must complete a minimum of 74 hours of training as outlined below.


50 hours of classroom training, 40 hours led by our certified instructors and 10 hours of 
independent study.


 


 


10 hours of lab training to include but not limited to pre-trip inspection, identifying hazards, 
maintenance and securing cargo.
15 hours of behind the wheel training to include 10 hours of range driving and 5 hours on the road.


 


Advancement from Class B to Class A Objectives & Requirements


Objective


For operators with a Class B CDL to learn to properly operate vehicles with a gross combined weight 
rating (GCWR) of 26,001 lbs. or more, as long as the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the 
vehicle(s) being towed is more than 10,000 lbs.
During your advancement training, you will operate 10 speed tractor trailers to prepare you for 
entry-level local, regional, and over-road hauling. You will receive hands-on, one-on-one training 
from our certified driving instructors who, combined, have more than 70 years of truck driving 
experience.
Requirements


Students must complete a minimum of 85 Hours of training as outlined below.


50 hours of classroom training, 40 hours led by our certified instructors and 10 hours of 
independent study.


5 hours of lab training to include but not limited to pre-trip inspection, identifying hazards, 
maintenance and securing cargo.
30 hours of behind the wheel training to include 20 hours of range driving and 10 hours on the 
road.


 


 


Advanced Skills Training
Objective


For individuals that are licensed Class A or Class B drivers seeking to advance their skills and 
knowledge.


Requirements


We will conduct an evaluation and tailor a training that meets your individual needs to best refine 
your skills, giving you the experience and confidence to further your career as a professional 
truck driver.
